With the recent election the prospects for an outdoor lighting ordinance in Loudoun County in the near future have dimmed. A proposal to consider an outdoor lighting ordinance was introduced in July of 2002 and quickly became fodder for the pro-growth members of the Board. News Article There is currently a very public battle underway to reverse much of the actions of the previous Board.
Considering the current climate it appears that the Planning Commission has shelved its plans to introduce a revised proposal for an outdoor lighting ordinance. Your voice is essential to let the Board of Supervisors know that you care about outdoor lighting.

I am writing to you today because I understand that the Department of Building and Development is in the process of writing a comprehensive outdoor lighting ordinance.
I wanted to let you know that this is important to me and I ask you to urge Building and Development to proceed as quickly as possible.
Would you please contact Building and Development on my behalf and find out what the status of the lighting ordinance is? I want to make sure that enough staff time is made available to make the ordinance a reality.
As I'm sure you are aware, every poorly conceived lighting installation that gets installed today will be around for many years to come. It is urgent that the county come up with uniform standards that keep outdoor lighting to reasonable levels. Overly bright, unshielded lights are a very visible sign of sprawl and have a big effect on our quality of life here in Loudoun.
